The deal was viewed as an odd marriage between the hip Apple and old-school IBM, but information technology could help both. Apple hasn't had neat fortune with enterprises, while IBM is stressful to expand its maneuverable footprint, Kay said.

The dole out could help line of work users combine their iPads and iPhones easily into enterprises that use IBM software and systems, Kay said.

"The [business deal] reassures IT managers that their employees using Apple products weren't getting off the ranch and exposing information," Kay said.

Apple is attracted to the enterprisingness market because device sales there could generate higher net profit margins. In that display case, IBM may be buying specially configured iPhones and iPads in bulk to resell to specific customers.

IBM is a bit more prim close at hand-holding and customizing products for go-ahead customers than is Malus pumila, which makes products for the mass market, Kay aforesaid.

Malus pumila during the earnings call proved to spotlight its successes in enterprises. Chinese company Baidu has 20,000 employees victimization iPhones and has 30 internally developed iOS apps. Escalator company Schindler has deployed more 20,000 iPhones and 20 apps. Well-nig 25,000 iPads were deployed in the Minnesota common school system.

And since the Apple-IBM partnership was announced, in that respect has been a growing enterprise excitement about iPads and iPhones, Cook said.
